Man suffers life-threatening injuries in North York shooting

TORONTO -- A man is in hospital with life-threatening injuries following a shooting in North York early Friday morning.

At around 4:45 a.m., police responded to reports of a shooting on Songwood Drive, near Finch and Islington avenues.

A man in his early 20s was outside of his vehicle when two male suspects approached him and shot over 20 rounds, Toronto Police Superintendent Ron Taverner said in a media briefing.

“It struck him at least twice that we're aware. He was subsequently taken to hospital. He's in very serious condition. He is still alive and we're hoping and expect that he will live,” he said.

No suspect description has been released.

Police are asking anyone with dash camera video or surveillance footage from the area to contact them.
